Detroit Auto Show 2012: Dodge Dart sneaks out


This is the 2013 Dodge Dart, the Alfa Romeo-based small car that's Chrysler's best chance to win compact car shoppers since the Neon was first introduced. It's a sharp looking entry -- even if it has a few too many options.


No, the new Dart leaked out all over the internet ahead of its official unveil Monday isn't a rear-wheel-drive coupe powered by a six-cylinder engine. (Nor is it the K-car version Dodge sold in Mexico in the '80s. Nostalgia goes both ways.) Built from the bones of the Alfa Romeo Giuletta, the chassis was widened for U.S. use, but Dodge kept good bits like an independent rear suspension. Power derives from one of three four-cylinder engine options; a 1.4-liter turbo, and naturally breathing 2-liter and 2.4-liter versions.
